House Moving Tips : The Senior Move

House Moving Senior MoveWhen folks with an advanced aged are involved, there is an added effort needed when going on a move. Old people tent to be quite set in their ways, and don’t always have the brightest or most modern of ideas (but then again who isn’t like that from time to time?) so you will always need to be there to guide them and make sure that they’re as comfortable as possible.

When seniors are involved in your move, here are a few pointers to help you get through it:

1. Don’t underestimate the time you will need.
Especially with old people, they will need more time to process the whole move and decide which of their things they want to bring with them. You also can be sure that there will be some problems with lost and misplaced things. And as they aren’t as physically fit as before, they naturally will need more time to pack their things, even if you’re around to help them. Some might even insist on doing everything themselves, so you really need to devote a large amount of time for preparation and planning.

2. Make them familiar with the new place.
Show them pictures and a basic layout of the new space they’ll be moving into. This not only helps them become a part of the move, but also makes them more familiar with the new place. They can also have an idea of how they’ll be going about their business and which space they want to utilize for themselves.

3. Patience, patience, patience.
This is the most important thing you should have when dealing with people of an advanced age. Try to understand and adjust to them – you’re the young one after all. Being hard headed and always going in too strong will often result in conflicts that will just delay everything even more.

4. Make sure the moving company can be trusted
Seniors are especially prone to being manipulated or fooled, so best get a company the specializes in moving seniors, one with a good reputation. This way you don’t need to do everything yourself, and are assured of a reliable service to help you out with everything.

5. Make them at ease in their new home.
If the seniors are going to have a house of their own, try to make unpacking and fixing everything as quick as possible so that the seniors can acclimatize and adjust to their new surroundings quickly. Try to visit them as often as you can so that you can help them with any needs they can’t do by themselves.
